Go to an exhibition with Ms. hadley

Sculpture Exhibition of Wu Weishan
Rachel Zhao 10-E
Describe:
The title of the sculpture is “Qi Baishi’s romantic charm”. The artist is Wu Weishan. He is a professor of Nanjing University.
The artwork was made of bronze and used many kinds of shapes, such as circles, triangles, rectangles. The rough lines describe a person’s eruditeness. The master designs of artwork are streamlined. It represents Qi Baishi’s heart. He is a peaceful person. The color of artwork is bronze. It shows an old elderly dignified and serene person. The textures are very complex. It shows an elderly wisdom.
The subject of artwork is Qi Baishi. From Qi Baishi’s philosophy eyes and furrowed face, we know the elderly have experienced many things of life. From Qi Baishi knits his brows, he thinks something important about artwork. The open mouth tells us he wants to talk about something. From Qi Baishi’s long beard, we know he is very old.
Interpret:
The artwork makes me feel happy and also gloomy and heavy. I feel happy because Qi Baishi likes painting animals. His paintings represent hope and new birth. I feel gloomy and heavy because the famous artist has passed away. He represents the career of Chinese painters.
The artwork makes me think about Qi Baishi’s life. Qi Baishi devotes his whole life to the painting. He is a dedicated person. In order to make good paintings, he spares no effort into traveling around the world to study painting. He is such a great person. He raises animals in his house to paint.
The artwork reminds me that ‘failure is the mother of successes. Sculpture of Qi Baishi shows he have experienced many things of life. I think when I have troubles. I must become strong and try my best to solve the problems.
I received a guidebook from the exhibition and there are some things from the guidebook said:“The artwork connects with the history of china. It can be discerned that the old cultural giants fleshed out by Mr. Wu all come from the five-thousand-year-old civilization. It terms pf representing methods, they two directly create their works by hand and therefore they are inherently true to life.”
The artist’s intention is to show the Chinese painters’ spirit. Qi Baishi is the model of Chinese painters. The artwork tells us to study the spirit of perseverance. It also tells us to do everything carefully and study hard. Qi Baishi is a mirror of Chinese traditional culture. Her paintings show us the life of Chinese people and Chinese rivers.
Judge:
I really like the artwork. There are four reasons: Firstly, I like the famous artist--- Qi Baishi. Secondly, Wu Weishan uses the sculpture to show us Qi Baishi’s personality and spirit. From the sculpture Qi Baishi is lifelike. Thirdly, the face of the sculpture show the Qi Baishi’s romantic charm, wisdom and philosophy. Fourthly, I like the elderly very much.
Qi Baishi’s classical life makes me feel that he is a mirror of Chinese traditional culture. I think other people might appreciate the artwork because the essence of artwork is special and it shows a famous artist truly. I think most people like his philosophy eyes and her eyes seem that he have insight into everything.

Eat at Swiss Rextaurant with grade 12 mentors

BEBBIS SWISS RESTAURANT
Rachel Zhao 10-E
My friends, two grade 12 mentors and I went to BEBBIS SWISS RESTAURANT to have a dinner this weekend, December 12th. BEBBIS SWISS RESTAUANT is a unique combination of “happiness, fun and food”. It represents happiness, entertainment and delightful food in a typical Swiss restaurant. We chosen this restaurant because it is the only Swiss restaurant in Nanjing and I really like eating chocolate and chess. The most famous food in Swiss is chess and chocolate. And this was my first time to enjoy the Swiss food. The beautiful pictures of food attracted me Swiss food is really different from Chinese food.
BEBBIS SWISS RESTAURANT is in orient department store floor-1, Xin Jie kou or subway Xin Jie kou station exit 16. We went at 5:40 P.m.
I really like the food and it’s so delicious. My favorite food was cheese fondue “deluxe”. The ingredients are bread, cheese and white wine, potatoes, meat, mushrooms. You eat bread with cheese. At First you felt not good but when you ate more, you felt that was so delicious. Swiss food need us eat slowly and feel the cream. Swiss food was not greasy and it was health. We eat vegetable, meat, fruit and many things. Nutrition is balanced when you eat Swiss food.
Chinese food is really different from Swiss food. Swiss food is not greasy or rich. It’s not too much but they can make you full. Chinese food is greedier and it adds many flavorings. It’s not healthy for us. But Swiss food has fewer flavorings. It’s more health.
The environment was great. When you came in, you felt that you stayed in a wooden house. Everything is made of wood. On the wall they are many picture, plates, and farm tools. The famous thing in this Swiss restaurant is Swiss’s bugle. It is very big. The atmosphere was fresh. The service is great, too. I took photos with Sevier. They are very kind and helpful. When we have a dinner, beside us are some adults and children. They go with family.
I will recommend other people to eat there. BEBBIS SWISS RESTAURANT is an ideal meeting place for people from all over the world. Enjoy Fondue specialties as well as a rich offer of general typical European food.

Guest Garden

Guest Artist
On December 1st, Mr. Zhao gave us a wonderful talk about Chinese garden. Mr. Zhao was a professor to analyze the Chinese garden. She had a famous artistic work in Master’s Temple. The gardens’ art in Master’s Temple were designed by him. He was such a clever person. I listened very carefully and took notes. Something maybe I don’t understand but I tried my best to understand the meaning of something.
The talk included three parts. Now, let’s have a summary. Firstly, Feng Shui and Garden Design: Practiced for thousands of years, feng shui (literally translated as 'wind and water') is a way to work in harmony with nature to enhance prosperity and happiness. Feng shui is a means to harness and direct vital force – the qi (chi) – for positive effects. Qi is referred to as 'the cosmic dragon's breath of the universe' and literally translates as energy, air, or current. Chinese philosophy established a theory that an invisible flow of energy circulating through the earth and sky brings life force with it. Secondly, Daoism: Two essential themes of the private gardens in China since the 3rd Century AD are the expression of the Daoist philosophy of nature and the connections between the arts of gardening and painting, poetry and calligraphy. Thirdly, Mountains and Water: The miniature mountains have structural as well as symbolic roles in the garden. Structurally, they form a natural backdrop for one scene, and separate it from the next without the need of an artificially erected barrier. By intentionally concealing everything behind the scene, the strategically-placed mountains add to the sense of diversity.
The most interesting part is ‘summarize of Chinese garden’. Firstly, Chinese garden was an old city’s forest. It just likes get quietly while making a loud noise. Secondly, it was historical culture of the fresh work. It just likes a mirror of Chinese culture. Thirdly, it was a Chinese painting for us to enjoy the beauty of it. Finally, Chinese garden was artistic wonderful work and there are many poems from it.
Another interesting part is the stones of Lack Taihu’s aesthetic characteristic can be said into four words: ‘thin’ ‘leak’ ‘penetrate’ ‘wrinkles’. That was so exquisite.
Chinese garden gave us a marvelous experience of artistic.
